Ants are wonderful ! They always live in society that can get up to thousands of individuals. Here, we collected Messor barbarus in the South of France at the end of the summer.
This species build nests underground in sand and is monogynous (i.e. only one queen per nest). Of course, the queen is often deep in the ground !
A good shovel and sun cream will be your best allies when looking for this species.
